One Division went after forage the fore part of this week and ware gone 3 days They went about 15 miles out and got over 300 wagon loads of corn which will last several days so that we will not have to go again for some time  That was the first trip that the Regt has taken since it entered Kentucky 15 months since that I was not with it  I had just been relieved from Co K, and asked leave to remain and straten up the books & papers of the company and it was granted. Thare was a great many long faces here yesterday and day before over the news that our forces had been whipped at Vickburg but todays news contradicts it which changes the feelings a great deal. I think honestly that things are getting in a good shape to flax the rebs out entirely within the next six months and I believe it will be done
