On the 14" inst I sent you by Agnt Goodwin $125.00 which is all I could sent this time but still I see from what you write that it will not be near enough to square you off with creditors provided you pay much of it to Fred. Doctors always expect to wait sometime for their bills and in this case I fear some of them will have to await whether they expect to or not for we cannot pay all at once but I spend as little money here as I possibly can so as to have the more to pay my debts. You say that some people are complaining that you Spend the money faster than I earn it. Those that talk so I owe nothing and am beholding to them for nothing and I wish it distinctly understood that I run my own boat and wish no Steersman from any of them. I am satisfied with the way my earnings have been spent and if others dont like it they need not let it bother them. Thats all. Tell Van that if he can trade that Shot gun to Dr. Holly for our bill there to do so provided he can get the worth of it which I thing should be not less than $25.00. When Capt Kings body was sent home I sent my sword (or what there was left of) with the directions for them to give it to Mother but I have never heard from her since and do not know whether She got it or not. let me know when you write to me The weather is most beautiful here now and our camp is in the nicest order that I ever saw in any camp since I have been in the Service. The whole camp is swept evry morning (unless it is raining) so that evrything is clean. And the boys are all in the best Spirits I ever knew them. and if you was to see them today you would think they were all fixing up to go to church or some gay festival as all have their clothes brushed, their shoes blacked, their hair well combed etc. On inspection the 1st of the month this Regt. was praised in Orders from Gen. Wood as haveing the cleanest camp and guns and making the best Soldierly appearance of any Regt. in the Corps. Such orders
