to be acquainted with among whom was cousin John M. Davis and Ben Gage but none others I believe that you know. I am in command of Co. "F" and have been for nearly one month and do not know how much longer I will have to be. Capt McKinney is quite much under the weather and I think will apply for leave of absence but whether he will get it or not I of course cannot tell. Some are lucky enough to get home on sick leave while others are not. I see that it is not much trouble in Gen Grants Army to get home on sick leave at least some do not appear to have much trouble that way. Well all I have to say is that I guess they will let me go home in June 1864 if they will not any sooner. Sam Wylie rejoined his Company on friday last and I understand that W.C. Appleton is also comeing back. Tell mother her excuse is satisfactorily for not writing and particularly so now since you have come home as I can hear from her by your letters, but I do think it would be nothing more than a brotherly act for Newt to write once in a long time at least. I will be looking for several letters soon as I have lately written to Len. Davis Nick Davis, Wm Port and your father all of whom have not answered as yet. I guess that if the 26" Ind goes to reinforce a nyone it will be Burnsides in place of Rosecrans. My sheet is full and I will stop for a day or two. Kiss the children for me. Your affectionate Husband A.F.Davis
