Port for several weeks but I guess he does not think my letter worth an answer or els he never received it. Tell Ken Husted I would like one from him occasionly if it is not too much trouble to him I come across Elbert Davis Aunt Hanna grandson and my second Cousin a few days since in the 37 Ind and a fat jolly fellow he is and a bully soldier. We got a letter from Cap McKinney a few days since and he was yet unable to be out of his room. I hardly think he will ever be back again. You asked in one of your letter why Serring was Commanding the Company in place of me. after McKinney went away. I will tell you I had not been on duty with our Co. but 3 days since the 15 of Dec. until the 1st of this month. Three days after I was relieved from Co. K, I was sent to command of Co F, and would have been there yet only I asked and insisted on being relieved the 1st of this month. It is bed time and my candle is all burned out so I will stop and finish in the morning before the mail starts. It is now Friday morning Apr. 8" and still wet and cloudy but some appearance of clearing of.. Tell the children I have just been taking a romp with two little pups about 3 months old which stay with the Regt. One is called Rosecrans, the other Bragg and they look so much alike that it is hard to tell them apart. I guess my transportation is not as extensive but what I can manage to carry that picture at least I intend to try it and I do not think you will see it again until you see me. Breakfast is ready so I will close for this time hoping to hear from you soon My love to yourself the children and Mother and my regards to all. Your affectionate Husband A.F. Davis
