(Added note at head of page:-) If you see Mrs. Macy tell her that John said what this morning as plain as he ever did and his voice appears to be returning slowly. All the Liberty boys are well. Jeff Wolfe and John Darnell are still at Murfreesboro Pelham Tenn July 16 1863 Mrs. Sarah Davis My dear Wife. Yours of the 8 inst come to hand today and Oh the joy it gave me as I had almost felt afraid to get a letter from you for fear it would tell of your being Sick again, and the Situation in which I left you gave me to fear the worst but when I received your letter today it seemed as though a heavy load was lifted from me and I must say that I feel happy. Well I suppose that you are all haveing a big Scare all over the country because Gen Morgan has concluded to go Nort on a flying visit and by what I see in the papers today he must be comeing rather closter to you than you ever supposed the war would come The last I heard from him he was at Glendale Ohio and going towards Hamilton. I presume that the Morton Scouts and Burnside guards are in the field before this time as I see that Gen Morton has called out the Malitia (Militia) and I hope if the Union Co Companies have been called out that they will be more careful in the future when loading and fireing and not forget to draw rammers before fireing for they might need them when they would want to reload. The query with us is are the Hosiers and Buckeyes going to let Morgan get away and recross the Ohio river safely or will they capture him. A great many of them at home are always finding fault with us because we do not Bag Whip or Capture certain ones of the enemy Now they have the enemy at their doors lets see Some of their Military Genious and Strategy demonstrated. Morgan has been among them for several days and traveld a good many miles into the country and Still going but still he is not Bagged, but enough of this. The news from all parts of the Goverment is cheering and makes the boys feel good. The only drawback is the riots in New York What a blessing it would be if some good man would shoot Gov. Seymore. Things are comparatively quiet here now as the enemy are all driven beyond the Tennessee River except some few straglers, or Scouts. There was some excitement here today caused by the news that there was Some Armed Rebels on the opposite side of Elk River only about one mile from here. And I was sent out with 10 men to see if I could find anything of them
