been paid up to June 30th therefore we have 3 months and 6 days now due us. If I am elected I will not be likely to get my pay before I come home as I will have to get a certificate from Washington Showing that I am not indebted to the Goverment before they will pay me after resigning. And as it will take Several weeks to get Such a certificate I will not wait for it but resign and get home as Soon as possible and let the certificate be Sent to me there. The last Newspapers that I have Seen are Oct. 1st and I am glad to see that the feeling at the North is much better in regard to matters here than what they ware the 1st week of the battle of Chickamauga. If I am not badly mistaken they will hear Something good from the Department of the Cumberland before another Six days rolls around. I will just Say that Old Rosa is at Chattanooga and will be here a week hence if he is not furthers South. The Rebs Still hold their position on our front, and have Kept remarkably quiet for Several days past until yesterday they opened batterries on our works from Several different points but with no great effect as I only heard of one man who was hurt by them Today evrything is very quiet again and it is the
