April 11th 1861 Dear friends I now sit down to write you a few lines to let you know that we are all well at present The boys were out fishing last night but they did not get many Our last winter's school was out the second of March and our summer's school will begin in two or three weeks. I think either Hellen Stewart or Martha Henry will teach it. The spring has been rather cold and backward but I think it is better to have the cold weather now than when the fruit and vegetables are growing. There has been several wedings in the neighborhood Mathew [Work?] is married to a Miss Miller and the rest that were married were about like him. Alexander Henry got his house burnt between one and two oclock last Tuesday morning he got nothing at all out I believe they scarcely got the clothes they had been wareing the day before out. [Russel?] says to tell you that we have but one calf this year. Willy says to tell you that we have but one lamb. Henry say to tell you that father has plowed a little, this spring. They say that Joseph H Blair is going to get married to lizzie Grier but I do not know whether it is so or not. Our Sabath school will begin the first Sabath of May at the Townhouse. I was at uncle John Irwin's a short time since and they were all well then. I believe I have told you all the news only a little a bout the railroad which I believe is going on this sumer but I think it will not come any nearer us than the western end of Andrew McKee's farm. it is handy to write with a penncil for it can be rubed out if it is not right
