Aug 15th - 61 Pilots Knob Mo Dear friends and I am now sitting on top of a small mountain called pilots knob it is situated 86 miles south of St Louis and about 40 mi west of of the river, it is about 500 feet high it is part of the Ozark mountains we got here this morning we were Called from Jefferson Barracks to go out west to raleigh and about the time we got on board our orders were countermanded and sent of in great hurry here to keep this station there is about 4 or 5 thousand federal troops [troop?] here now there is about 5000 sesesh about 30 miles at frederick town east of this some says there is 8000, the pickets gaurds are only 6 miles apart our troops lay on their arms
