861555 JAMES SHIELDS, Co.H. 7th, Regiment, Iowa Volunteers. Camp Benton St Louis Oct 5th. 1861 Dear Friends It is with extream pleasure that I seat my self to write you a few lines. I am well at preasant and hope these few lines will find you enjoying the same. You will doubtless see for you read this far, that we quit at Potosi at preasant thanks be to our worthy first Lieutenant for getting us removed. We had been six weeks at Potosi and any body knows that is too long for Company "H" to stay in
