TUESDAY, AUGUST 16, 1864. Moved at daylight to a point of the R.R. about Six (6) miles nearer Atlanta and think our object was to drive in their Pickets and keep them stirred up which we did and moved to Sandtown where we have a Pontoon fortified all night expecting to be attacked in morning Rations scarce also government forage scarce or half WEDNESDAY 17 Engaged all night fortifying on the south side of the Chattahoochee - In line of battle at daylight but nothing of any force to bring on an engagement. men laying around in squads under the Cedars Resting. Recd an order to have 100 round ammunition and be ready to march to-morrow evening point suppose macon THURSDAY 18 Made preparations all day for the intended Raid and about 8000 Cav. moved at dark and marched all night meeting the Rebs. near midnight close to the Atlanta R.R. & Westpoint. zimmerman Horse fell and Broke his neck and he abandoned all his H. Equipments. Boht [Jamison?] and Chas.Taylor abandoned their Horses. (Vertically, over entry:-) Fought the Rebs from time of meeting them until day Light driving them. Co D had one (1) man wounded and the Regt several horses (Vertically, at right:-) Forwarded Monthly Returns for Q.M. Stores & C.C. & G.E
