Keokuk Sept 20th. 1863 Dear Ellen. I received your welcome letter this (Sabbath) morning and in it a ring which is a little to large though I can wear it. I am pleased to learn that you are well. I am sorry as well as you that you can not see me. I should like verry much to accompany you on some of your pleasure excurtions & more especially on a visit to the Cemetery where rests the remaines of our departed loved ones. I have not forgotten our last visit there, nor my last visit alone, when I reflected I might be viewing those graves for the last time
