this evening a democrat tried to speak from the Sherman House but the crowd would not hear a word. Sept 2nd Went over an Elevator which raises the corn from the r.r. cars in a machine like a dredging machine which trows it into a huge box where it is weighed & sent down into the bin whence it is shipped. These Elevators are huge buildings the work in them is very killing & men are often done up by it in 3 or 4 years. A Scotchman took us over he came over 15 years ago when there were about 1000 inhabitants, most of the houses & streets have been raised since then several
