Strawberry Shortcake. 2 cups sugar 2 " flour 1 1/2 c. milk 4 eggs 2 tsp. baking powder 1 c. butter; Mix sugar & butter together, and beat in the eggs slowly, then the sifted flour, and last the milk; bake this in a buttered jelly cake pan; when done let them cool, add a fresh layer of strawberries and sugar, then a layer of the pastry, and cover the top /c strawberries, and sprinkle sugar over it. Serve '/c cream or sauce. White Taffy Candy 6 lbs. sugar 1/2 lb. butter, 1 tsp cream tartar; boil until brittle pour, out & pull white, season /c vanilla.
