thrown up temporary works on the right of 23 Corps and were to follow us out, (guess.) We reached the Montgomery branch of the R R. at 4 PM. crossed and after going a mile further camped in rear of the division which had begun to fortify. Our corps is now in a semi-circle, both flanks resting on the R R. (In left margin:-) (not so) The Army of Tenn is on its way here via Sandtown and we expect to hear of some fighting when they take up their position on the right across the macon R R. We are 7 miles from that R R.
