To Make a Dyet Drinke Take on eGallon Strong Sweet wort, and a handfull Of Dwarf Elder, wash and pound it well, and put It into the wort with the barm, and work it 24 hours Then Strain it, and put it into bottles, when it is fine Take a beer Glass full every morning, and one at night Going to bed - for 3 days together, then take it once In 2 or 3 days as long as you See Conveniet. Mrs Edwards receit to make Cake. Take flower & let it in dishes in an ovn, that is warm over night to dry, & 12 pounds of Currants, wel waished and prickt & set them in the oven with the flower or before the fire; when the flower is dry, weigh 10 pounds, 8 ounces of it, put it into a pan & put to it a pound of Almonds blanched & beaten, pretty fine, with a little fair water, to keep them from oiling. Rub them wel in your flower, & put in your Currants, two nutmegs, grated, a little Cinnamon & mace beaten, half apound of sugar beaten smal, a quart of good ale yeast, forty eggs with half the whites, apint of sack, three quarts of Cream, 3 pounds of Butter, sit the cream over the fire, and put the butter into it Let it stand till the butter be almost melted, then take it off, and when it is blood warm, put it into the other things and mix them together. Then lay a cloth over it, and Set it against the fire to rise until the oven be swept, then take and stir it wel together, and put it into your hoop, which must be wel buttered, or it wil stick to it. Cut and prick it with a knife in several places to the bottom, Set it into the oven, and an hour wil bake it. When it is baked put off the hoop, & ice it with double refined sugar, [starched?] fine, & beaten with the froth of whites of Eggs, and alittle Rose or orange flower water when it is iced, let it in the oven alittle to harden the icings. your oven must be no hotter than for baking of manchet. Beat the icing al the while, the Cake is baking Half this quantity of every thing wil make agood hansome Cake.
