Spanish Paste Take 1/2 pint of water 1 ounce of loaf sugar a small piece of lemon peel, butter the size of a large walnut. Set it on the fire when the ingredients are dissolved thicken it with flour till it becomes a paste & leaves the pan - put it in a mortar & pound it with three eggs till very smooth then drop it in small pieces into a pan of boiling lard, & fry them of a light brown & send them to table with sifted sugar over them - they may be dropped on tins & baked when done put sweetmeats in them.
