Linn especially. Monday I went to school & began the struggle to keep up with my class that has kept me busy a great deal of the time since. Housecleaning took about a month, for everything was dirty & the carpets had to be taken up & painting & papering done & so I could not study much out of school at first. Then there was Christmas presents to buy or make, winter dresses to be made & Gracie took the measles & was quite sick. I was number one for the month of December. I did not expect to be although we were reviewing old grades then, in which being absent did not effect me. I could not help thinking although I was glad that "Better they that never rise, than they that rise to fall." I do not know
