Saturday - July 29th. I have finished Mrs. Alexander's book. I think that it would be just, yes, perfectly just to say that it is a useless book, with a little sprinkling of French & a great deal of nonsense, that it will never do you any good & (if you are like me) you will finish it with a sort of hateful, disgusted feeling towards everybody & everything. When I was reading it if asked the name of my book I would get 3 or 4 shades beyond my natural beet color & act as if I was guilty of something dreadful. I don't mean to tell you that is was not interesting for it was. Do you like to read a story when you are ashamed of being fascinated with it? I don't & so I dont intend to read another of hers ever.
