- 9 - We were taken up into the smoking room and stood in single file to receive our landing cards, Percy placing me first. We received them without any trouble, and just then dear Annie Sturge came lightly tripping along to meet us, accompanied by Percy who stood outside the door very interestedly watching us meet. We were warmly embraced and welcomed by her, which did us good. Then as we were about to leave the boat, Chief Stuart, came and bade us a hearty 'goodby' desiring we might have a good trip, and I come back well. Percy and our state room Stewart also shook hands with very kind words, we had to weep and expressed our gratitude to them. I was carried off in a chair by two men, Chief Sewart and Percy following. They went into the Custon house with mamma and Georgetta to help them get their baggage; and helped get me into the taxi then said 'goodby' again, waving as we drove off. The Custom's officers did not open all the trunks, saying 'they knew we would not carry anything bad'. We were soon in the hospitable home of Edward and Annie Sturge where we
