- 30 - we were going; Some places the road had to zig - zag in order to enable vehicles to ascend and descend. Uncle and mamma would keep telling me things of interest about the different places as we passed. I had expected to have quite a bit to say about the scenery; but as I looked from one side to the other, I could only take one deep breath after another with scarcely a word to say. There seemed to be no end to beauty and grandeur unimaginable! We came to a little town by the river which we crossed by driving the car onto a floating bridge made of planks. A cable was fastened to two posts at either side of the river and to the bridge, by which three men pulled the floating bridge and its load slowly accross by hand. Then we drove onto shore again. On and on we went, and I thot to myself where ever does any one live way back in here where as far as one could see it was a great mass of mountain peaks and narrow valleys and waters between. But, here and there stood a lonely house or two in the valleys surrounded by a little pasture; and enuf space for a few
