- 36 - home and the girls wanted me to be out in the sunshine, they offered to carry me. I refused, thinking they would strain themselves. And did not want to give up to it at all: but, after long persuading me and showing how they lifted eachother, I gave up for two to carry me. But, we all got to laughing so hard that they lost their power; and Theoline sat on the ground with me in her lap and Pauline forced to follow. Ida Mary brot my canes; so I sat on the steps for awhile. After that I hardly dared let them try to carry me; tho, they did try it a couple of times more. Pauline had come home on her vacation for two weeks, I much enjoyed her company; and the free and open talks we had on various subjects. She left on First - day and she and I both cried to part. After they had all gone except Theoline and Aunt Inger and I, and after my rest, Bergine came over and she and Theoline wanted to carry me about four hundred feet, to the large part of the creek where they could swim for me. So we started off, I sitting on their hands between them; and three little neighbor girls
