Monday S. M. Charles, your letter dated at Davenport Dec. 25th we received last tuesday. They did not all get Christmas presents around here but Joseph S. Bladget carried his lady to the Methodist church at (Rumney?), they had a tree loaded with presents Snow received an envelope containing a little pair of white stockings 2 or3 inches long they said he was very much pleased with them & Mary (Fifield?) (unreadable) (Gills girl) gor a pair of mittens & an envelope containing one match & written in it (now you have got your match They rigged out a leam on the turnpike with four horses & carried up 38 n one team There is a book out containing a history of the Congregational
