ted that garden and one cornfield but took the rest. still raining. Sept 6. Rained all night but halted this forenoon. Nothing unusual happened today. Still getting plenty to eat. Sep 7th. Rained on us all night begin to [fishey?] afraid, ins drill commence [Shrouting] soon. I was called up at 4 oclock this morning by Major Wood and ordered to take 6 men and reconnoiter an old turnpike which goes to Tigert valley and see if the enemy ware making any advance upon that road. Went 6 miles to the Valley turnpike found no enemy nor signs of any [of?] them went [illeg]making 12 miles [illeg] before breakfast. Quit going at river.
