14 pieces and in the aggregate believe 5 to 6,000 men all told. The 7th 9th & 14th Ind Regiments ware thrown forward as skirmishers or advances to drive in the enemys outposts. The 13th Ind as guard to the artillery. The 32nd Ohio had been posted with 1 piece of cannon about 3 miles back to guard a cross road and the 15th Ind and 25 Ohio ware held as the reserve. The enemys advances or out posts ware soon driven in after some sharp skirmishing . The cannon then advanced within 3/4 of a mile of the enemys breastworks and 9 a.m. commenced fireing on them [our fire?] was returned vigorously by the
