pike and again went across the counrty until we come to the Boling Green and Mumfordville road which for 12 miles the Rebels have obstructed by ploughing up the road and felling trees &c Consequently we had to take by roads and through the fields which was verry slow and hard work. Our company was rear guards consequently we had to help the waggons through the mud and about every 3 rods on avrage they would stick fast and the mules could not start them and then we had to push them out. I saw more abuse and whipping of mule
