5 gift has been given to those retiring. Birthdays sometimes have been remembered by small tokens or cards. This year (1939) each member was given the name of another member to whom they were to send a birthday card or gift, the name of the doner to remain a secret. In 1904 names proposed for new members were first written on slips of paper then collected and read by the secretary. Some difficulty being had in getting members to serve on the program committee, Mrs Brown in 1907 suggested and it was approved by the club, that three members be chosen alphabeticaly and in rotating order to serve as program committee. That custom is followed still. The first press reporter chosen by the club in 1900 was Mrs Dobson.
