16 Federation The Cary Club has been a member of the Marion Federation of Woman's Clubs for a number of years and has furnished programs for their meetings a number of times. At one of these programs Mrs Shumack gave a brief history of the club. In 1931, by a majority of votes taken in all the city clubs, the petunia was chosen by the Federation as Marion's flower and the Federation offered prizes to all clubs for the best poems about this flower. Mrs. Blinks, Winter and Erwin entered poems, and the prize, packages of petunia seed, was given to our club. Like other clubs we cared for a petunia bed on the outskirts of town for a number of years. A few years ago when the Federation wished dishes and silver so they could serve light refreshments in the library assembly room. The Cary's donated a dozen plates and a dozen cups of the chosen pattern and Mrs Sumack kindly gave the club twelve tea spoons to go with the dishes.
