1913 The July meeting of the Christian Temperance Union was held at the home of Mrs Eighme. The President opened the meeting by reading the 34 psalm an offering prayer. Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. Mrs Hill not being present Mrs Stocks told of the float we had in the parade July 4. Mrs Drine kindly helped in this work. Mrs Stocks read a letter from Miss Hopkins asking the W. C. T. U. to help finance the Recreations for the young people. The union voted to contribute $5.00 towar this work. Miss Bailey wrote a letter to be printed in the local paper, a protest against giving a smoker at commercement time and other things that seem in our estimation lowering the standard of the college. Miss Marsh's idea is to first go to the Pres. of the college in this matter she considers it a personal matter. A letter was read by Miss Marsh from Allie Belle Eastburn wanting to come here to lecture of "Suffrage" her home is at Fairfield Iowa. Miss Marsh gave a report of the convention at Keota. A large delegation attended from Orkaloosa. Mrs Smith of Cedar Rapids told of writing a welcome to the Brewers convention at Cedar Rapids it was called an unwelcome welcome as it told of the recked souls and homes and many other things the Brewers association stand for. Encouraging reports were given from the unions. One new union has been organized at Lacey. Mrs Watland was elected to be district secretary. Miss Marsh thanked the union for the privelege of attending the convention. Nominating committee for election of officers Mrs Emma Bailey, Mrs Clarkson, and Miss Clark.
