Dec. 15. 1913 The W.C.T.U. met in the Methodist churh Dec. 15. The meeting was called to order by our pres. Mrs. Lincoln. Mrs. Stoddard led the devotional exercises. "Joy to the World" was sung. The scripture lesson was the 2nd chapter of Matthew. "Stand up for Jesus" was sung followed by five or six prayers. Mrs. Clarkson and Miss Bailey gave thier report of how Scientific Temperance was taught in the Parker school. The report was very encourageing good work was being done in the school. They distributed Temperence blotters to the scholars. Mrs. Clarkson had charge of the programs. The Topic was "Moderate drinking and Patent medicines". The Rev. Laurence, Pastor of the United Presbyterian church gave us an earnest tak on Moderate drinking. He said that moderate drinking was really more dangerous than drinking to excess, both to the person and as an example to others. He said drink deadens the moral as well as the spiritual life also weakens the will power. He advised us to get as many signers to the [Hobzon?] Resolutions as possible. Another very important thing was the influence of moderate drinking on the coming generations. Mrs. Wilson then gave us a helpful talk of "Patent Medicine" that they should never be used, they had so much alcohol in them. It was moved and reconed to have our next meeting on the 15th instead of the 20th of Jan. as the 15th was the day appointed as National
