Penn Yan April 19, 1826 Dear Father I have not written since I returned from Albany as I had nothing of particular interest to write about, & nothing but what William could inform you of. I enjoy very good health, & was pleased to hear by John Myer that you & the family were well. I have now been here about half a year & have found no reason for regretting that I established myself here my present business is something & my future prospects are that it will increase. When at Albany William doubtless informed you that I purchased some books at auction. I was induced to purchase them both because they were cheap, and because I was in hopes to receive the appointment of district attorney. I had such assurances of it that I thought I would do my best to qualify myself for exercising the duties of the office. I however consider it a matter of great uncertainty as a Mr Taylor of Redding in this County wants the office and he is older and has
