August 14, 1826 Dear Father I received your letter a few days ago & having an opportunity by Capt Harris I thought to drop a line altho I have nothing of importance to communicate. I enjoy very good health & had the pleasure to hear by Mr Louchs that you & the family were also well, this Country is now and has been since I have been here very healthy, but in the Village of Ovid the Dysentary has pre-vailed & proved fatal in a number of cases Aunt Denton's family have all been sick but are now recovering - Professional business has been dull for the last two months, but it generally is during the harvest season, and I have no reason to complain I shall have some business in the next court of Common Pleas I hope to receive the appointment of District Attorney, as two of the Judges have spoken to me respecting it & that without any solicitation on my part what, the feelings of the first Judge are however I do not know; I have always been on very friendly terms with him, he is however a very strong politician, and motives of policy will govern him entirely, William wrote to me that
