her own work - little Carrie is now nearly two years & three months old - is rather tall of her age & perfectly healthy, has never been the least unwell for a moment. My own health is as good as ever - & in that respect I am pecularly fortunate - having lost every thing else I will count myself rich. I have left me a head to continue & hands to execute & altho I literally fulfil the command "not to lay up our treasures here on earth" I don't know but what I enjoy life as well as those who do - "Hope" the poet says "springs eternal in the human breast" & hope is left us - I send you a long (and what if you read you will call tedious) agricultural address. - it was well received however & published as an extra in "three of our California papers. There are many typographical mistakes in it but I rather wish you would read it altho it will test your patience. The weather continues delightful - we had a two days rain about two weeks ago and our burned up hills are assuming the appearance of spring - Our State Agricultural fair was a
