Independence Io Oct 18 . 85 My dearest Minnie: I did not get your letter untill yesterday was begining to get anxious was afraid you were sick or that some thing had happened for I felt sure that you would not fail to write Sunday if you could help it. But the letter came around all right and after all nothing was the matter only a delay of a day or so some where. Yes Coz you are right it wont Say Coz do you remember the little stub of a lead pencil I stole from you the last Sunday we were in Malone to gether? I said then I would keep it till we met again I came across it the other day in an old vest pocket the one I wore [then?] and now I am going to keep my promice. it is the pencil I am writing this with Your devoted Coz Mell
