83. however, there was inexcusable trouble in store for me when we were lured from the known and familiar paths to these experimental by-paths of native dishes. Still, we reasoned - it was part of our experience to learn something about those national dishes and foods of foreign lands. Furthermore, you will remember I had been admonished not so long before then about food and had been advised to eat everything even though it might cause distress. So it couldn't have been my fault entirely that digestive upsets occurred with regular frequency. At the stopover of the boat in Honolulu friends met us with leis and a car at the dock and took us driving about the enchanting but limited little island. We all had luncheon at Waikiki and among other delicies [delicacies?] I ate several slices of avocado in my salad. The Sibera Maree was to sail about four but long before then bumps were jumping out over my body and they itched desperately. Our friends took us back to the boat and on the way we stopped for a last minute purchase of ointment for the hives, but as usual these local applications were entirely ineffective. I went directly to our state-room and got into my birth in an [innutterably? utterly?] miserable condition. With all the seas it has been my privilege to sail, and harbours I have been in, this is the first and only one I have ever missed seeing as the ship slipped out to the ocean.
