this has been an unusual wet season, for a while we dispared to raseing any crops, of Late it has been very seasonable, the hay crop could not be any better. I never had such a fine lot of hay all up without any rain. We will have fair crops of corn, the oats crop is good, the wheat crop was a failure. so far I have got along with my farming very well, every thing attended to in due time, without any confusion or trouble. I think now that I will rent out the home place to some good man, and moove to town. we have not business on a farm any loger, for reasons I could very easely explain to you, [Lide?] Lewis has been staying here for the Last 3 or 4 weeks, but has gone home now. I have been quite unwell for 3 or 4 days in Bed most of the time I feel a little better to day. the Chidren are kind to me & do any thing for me. your mother and me do not Pretend to speak to each other, nor have not for months. She has her room, I have mine. We eat at the same table but no words pass between us. She would quarrel every day but silence is my only defence. I tel you it is [awfull? aufull?] but such appears to be my Lot. dont say or write any thing to the boys or any one else about what I have written to you. Hoping to hear from you soon I Remain your Father &c S. G. Finney
