Blakesburg Wapello Co Iowa Oct 10 1875 Mr Geo. S. Finney your letter of the 29th ult. came to hand yesterday, and I assure you is was a satisfaction to hear from you once more. you commenc by asking the question [viz?] have I (that is you) disgrased the family, or my self, by some horrable crime that the family have forgotten me. (you) Answer- I am really sorry there is such a bad state of feeling between the diferent members of our family. I dont know of you disgraceing yourself, or doing any thing Particularly wrong. I have no complaint to make, that some of the family have a bitter feeling towards you and myself there is no doubt. Ever since you have been gone I never faild to ans. every letter you wrote to me, now I did think strange that you would not write to me for so long a time, I did not know but perhaps you had got our of humor with me on account of the letter I wrote to you in the sumer, in which I stated that you better not send me any money- you had stated in your Previous letter that you did not want any- misunderstanding- about it. I thought at once and so wrote that I did not want you so send me any money, then there could not be any misunderstanding. no offence was intended.Well George I guage from the time of your letter that you have got down Pritty well to the hard Paw. you have had some good Luck & some very bad Luck but you must remember such is Life. there is not use grieveing over these things, but should meet them with as much fortitude as Possible. Gold Smith says virtue consists not in never falling, but riseing as often as you fall. I tel you that things are some thing else but agreeable here. Part of
