When the war ended I owned my horse, (the officers all had to buy their horses in the Army) He had been a goodded worsted on the last great march and before I was mustered out I trraded him for an old fashioned gold watch which I wore all the time I was in college, and just before leaving college I traded it to the jeweler for that watch and wore that watch until the people of the church of [Muscative?] at a celebration of wifes birthday on which they gave her a fine cloak, and greatly to my surprise gave me a fine gold watch which I have carried ever since, that was Feb. 3rd 1889, and I loaned the old silver watch to your Father, I read Effies letter to Olivia and she said that because of the history of the watch it ought to be kept in our family, so if you will return it to me I will be thankful. I shall certainly want to hear from you
