During Evelyn's vacation in Minneapolis 1942 she met Dick Hayashi at the Minneapolis Service Men's Center. He later went to Italy with a predominately unit of Americans of Japanese descent. His parents were in internment camps. Dick came home very bitter over his treatment and that of his parents.
