Jefferson Barracks, Missouri 1-3-43 My dear Evelyn: Since I am the Sergeant of the Guard I thought that it would be a good idea to drop you a line or two. My duties here at Jefferson Bks is to go into training for combat air corps for oversea duty. In other words to harden my body and learn or rather review some military tactics. We march, drill, take up and assemble and disassemble various small arms like Tommy guns (sub-machine gun), pistol, and rifles. I had to go on 20 mile hike with a full field pack (60 lbs) and gun.
