September, 1906. Sun. 2. Rain in night. Warm; heavy shower 9+ A.M., & thunder showers P.M. & heavy down-pour. At mtg. morn & Evg. Clearing Evg. N.W. Mon. 3. Bright & cool morn. only 48° at 5:45. Fair day. Cool in office A.M. Both girls off for Cedar Falls by morning train, via New Hampton. Court & Bd Sup. - convened. Tues. 4. Beautiful morn. Cool & still. Fine day, about 76° max. - Picked the last Hale Plum, 5 weeks since the first. Charlotte cooked the bulk of seedling plums to-day - De Sotos beginning to fall. Wed. 5. Another fine morn. 53°. Fine day, 76°. Pretty cool in office, morn. Charlotte kind o' used up with a cold Began using new shaded glasses out in sunshine but they strain the eyes on near objects. Thurs. 6. Another beautiful day. & warmer 80° max. - Cool nights. Schroda mowed - close. C. in P.M. & I out after 3:30 making hen house door. - Began using De Sotos, altho' a few have ripened before. Fri. 7. Fair & quiet & warm. 82 or 83° max. Warm nights again. Working light because of eye-trouble. Dinner at hotel C. at club dinner. Melons ripening rapidly now. Set Freesia bulbs. Sat. 8. Beaut. morn., quite warm night. Quite warm day. - 86° max. C. in a while P.M. Using Evergreen sweet corn - fine.
