Des Moines Iowa May 11th 1866 My dear Father & Mother I am almost ashamed that I have not written for so long a time but it was because I have not decided what I shall or where I shall locate. I am free to admit that the prospects are not very flattering in the (towns?) in Iowa. There is no business being done at Ft Dodge of any consequence and I have about concluded not to go there and as a matter of course must stay at Des Moines
