Chariton, Iowa, Nov 22 1871. 
My dear Father & Mother, 
We are all in usual health. Frank is still here although he intends to go to Des Moines tomorrow and will then return here. The children are in good health and growing finely. Frank has improved very much in appearance. I think it is the best thing he could have done to work awhile on the farm. He weighed a few days ago 131 lb. 
I presume you all miss poor Levi. I so often think of him. It was a little (illegible) but at about 3 o'clock the day he died Frank & I were husking corn together in the field and were talking about him. I told Frank what I was expecting news from him at any time, that he was dead. I never heard whether my letters in answer to the telegram or my letter to you were received. I wrote to Mr (Scence?) a few days ago about some (illegible)  at McCowan's & told him I
