If I had not said "yes" you wouldn't have been sure I loved you, and I felt that you needed that assurance and that this was no time for evasions and coyness. But had I not said "yes" you wouldn't expect me to come up to Toledo now and my heart wouldn't be torn and unhappy. This is one of the times I meditate on the joys of being an orphan. Left to myself I don't believe I'd doubt you at all, and innocent actions wouldn't take on questionable meanings. I wonder how you'd stand up under it if someone
