were alway telling you I didn't love you, and would say "He had a week's vacation at Christmas and spent Saturday evening and Sunday with you," "Hmmm, 10 day's leave but his friends mean more to him than you do." - and so on endlessly. I'd like to fling a very unfilial "shut up" but instead my eyes fill with tears and I leave the room, because I know that it is the mother-heart flying to the defense of her wounded young. But I think the young should be allowed to suffer their jolts, and to learn that the world is not always kind. I've been considering- more seriously than you suspect - joining the WACs when you go overseas. (Wouldn't it be anti-climactic if I were rejected!!)
