The story looked fair, hence John Eckel and I, who were in charge of the train, decided to go across the mountain, however, we had not proceeded more than one half the distance when one of our wagons upset. Then to get it righted every thing had to be carried up the mountain side and by the time this was done and the wagon loaded again it was dark. We now had the maules fed and secured for the night.
