54 Near Cold Harbor, Va., Thursday June 2. 1864 The battle began this morning early, but very little fighting was done in our immediate front until toward evening. Quite a number prisoners were taken during the day. The number killed and wounded during the day was very large, however the 50th lost only one killed viz Samuel Peffer, of Co. E. - so far no reports of any wounded have been received. Friday 3d The engagement today was exceedingly heavy and our loss in killed are: Emanuel Eckel, Company C. Albert Bertolet, " " Fred'k A. Holbrook " D Cady Sherlock " K and the wounded are:
