66 Front of Petersburg, Pa. Thursday June 23rd, 1864 During the day there was heavy cannonading and considerable musketry practice, using the Johnnies for our mark whenever possible. The result was one man wounded, in our regiment, viz Sergeant H.J. O'Connell of Company B and private John T. Nays of Company E killed. Quartermaster Eckel brought up clothing and had me help issue them. I drew one pair shoes, two pairs drawers, which I gave to Colonel Overton. Received three days rations: Coffee, sugar, Hard bread, Beans, dried apples, salt, soap, Bacon, Pork and candles.
