69 Front of Petersburg, Va, Tuesday June 28th 1864 Several paroled prisoners of our regiment reported for duty. John Struhm, private of Company H, was killed. The sharpshooters (on the Rebel line) are very annoying. Lent my horse to Lieutenant John Synder to go to see some friends in the Second Corps. Wednesday 29. Quartermaster Eckel brought up the company books and papers. The Sanitary Commission issued sauerkrout and apples, which were greatly relished by the men. Whisky was again ordered but owing to an error in our requisition: being greater than our morning report
