85 Front of Peterburg, Va., Friday, July 29th 1864 Received orders to be ready to move at 7 1/2 oclock, P.M. Packed everything but did not move until nine, when we marched back as far as General Warren's Head Quarters. Saturday 30th Marched again at 3.30 oclock this morning and soon after arived at the front, immediately in rear of our old position. About half past four oclock a heavy column of smoke and dirt went up many feet in the air, from the rebel fort just in our front. Immediately after the fort was blown up, Ledley's division of our Corps (the 9th) charged across the opening in the fort and took possession of the rebel lines. They were quickly followed by the
