121 Near the Peebles' House, Va. Sunday, October 2d 1864 At 8 oclock this morning there was heavy firing on our right. About 11 oclock A.M. the Brigade crossed the earthworks and advanced through the woods nearly a mile when we found the enemy, there we halted an lay in line of battle until dark, when we fell back about a quarter of a mile - then threw up Earthworks to protect our rear and flank. Then drew and issued two days rations of Coffee, Sugar, Hard Bread and Pork. Monday 3 Recd letters from Father and brother David - Wrote an answer to each. Both father's and David's letters were dated September 29th.
